The historic Mission San Juan Capistrano, the 21st mission, was founded by Junipero Serra in 1776, and to this day is one of the best well-kept missions in California. Docent tours are available and invite visitors and locals alike to see this as a cultural destination experience, a place of inspiration, education, and preservation. The mission is home to the ruins of the great stone church and serves as a vibrant place of ongoing learning and worship.

As the oldest residential street in California, the Los Rios Historic District is home to restaurants like Ramos House Café, a quaint place to enjoy brunch, or Hummingbird Café, perfect for a cup of tea and a scone. Ideal for families looking for things to do in San Juan Capistrano, Zoomars Petting Zoo allows visitors to take a train ride, feed the animals, or just enjoy the day.

Rancho Capistrano Winery is Orange County's largest winery and was the birthplace of grape growing and winemaking in California. Every year in March, San Juan Capistrano celebrates the migration of the swallows with Fiesta de las Golondrinas, or "the Swallows Parade". The parade is over 60 years old and is the largest non-motorized parade in the nation. The many events scheduled for this time of the year pay tribute to San Juan Capistrano's unique Spanish and western heritage.
